Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 July 2026. This policy explains how Undercurrent, operated by James Robinson (based in the United Kingdom), handles your data.
Who we are & how to reach us
Undercurrent is a self-reflection assessment operated by James Robinson, based in the United Kingdom (trading as "Undercurrent"), who is the data controller for users in the UK and EU. For any privacy question or request, email privacy@undercurrentquiz.com.
What this product is (and isn't)
Undercurrent provides educational self-reflection about relationship and personality patterns. It is not a medical device, diagnosis, or therapy, and does not provide medical or mental-health advice.
Data we collect
- Account data: your email, and (optionally) your first name.
- Assessment data: your answers, and the derived trait scores, patterns, and archetype.
- Reports we generate for you.
- Payment data: handled by Stripe — we receive a confirmation and an order reference, not your card number.
- Usage analytics: anonymised/pseudonymised product and advertising events, collected only if you accept analytics cookies (see Analytics & cookies).
Why we use it (lawful bases)
- To provide the assessment and your report (performance of a contract).
- To process payment (contract).
- To improve the product and measure our marketing (legitimate interests, and consent for analytics/advertising cookies).
- Because you have given consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Your answers can touch on sensitive themes. We use them only to generate your own results, never to make decisions about you, and we do not sell them.
Sharing & processors
We use trusted processors to run the service: Supabase (database/auth), OpenAI (report generation), Stripe (payments), PostHog (product analytics), Meta (ad measurement via the Meta Pixel — only if you accept analytics cookies), and Resend (email). We never sell your data, and we never share your assessment answers or reports for advertising. With your consent, the Meta Pixel shares pseudonymous events (e.g. "viewed the teaser", "purchased") so we can measure and improve our ads — you can decline this and still use everything. Some processors may handle data outside the UK/EU under appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).
Retention & deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account page. You can also request deletion of your data by emailing privacy@undercurrentquiz.com — we will verify your request and delete your data. Deletion is permanent.
Your rights
Subject to law, you can access, correct, export, or delete your data, and object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these, use the account page or email privacy@undercurrentquiz.com. If you're in the UK or EU and unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the UK ICO (or your local supervisory authority).
Analytics & cookies
Essential cookies (for sign-in) are always on. Analytics and advertising cookies — PostHog (product analytics) and the Meta Pixel (ad measurement) — load only after you click "Accept" on our cookie banner. Until then, nothing is loaded and no events are sent. If you decline, the banner won't reappear and you can use the whole product normally. You can change your mind by clearing this site's cookies.
Children
Undercurrent is for adults 18+. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes
We'll post any changes here and update the date above.
